Welcome to NPORS
About NPORS
Since NPORS was formed in 1992, we have accredited over 1000 instructors and training providers who operate on national and international projects. During this time we have worked hard to ensure that appropriate training and assessments are being delivered to employers in the Construction, Utilities, Distribution and Warehousing, Ports and Marine, Rail and Agricultural Sectors. NPORS have currently registered over 160,000 operators who have been employed across all UK industry sectors. The Health and Safety Executive recognise NPORS as competent to accredit and monitor organisations to train instructors and/or to train, test and certificate operators. http://www.hse.gov.uk/workplacetransport/factsheets/hscrecognition.htmNPORS has been an Accredited Body recognised by HSE since 1999 for Rider-operated Lift Trucks: Operator Training – Approved Code of Practice (L117) and NPORS sit on the HSE Accrediting Bodies Forum along with the other accrediting bodies, RTITB, AITT, ITSSAR, Lantra and ConstructionSkills (CITB).
The main objective of NPORS is to allow NPORS Accredited Training Providers a flexible approach to meet the needs of the employer to help and assist in providing an adequately trained workforce within the UK. NPORS Accredited Training Provider
HSE believe that, as a Training Provider accredited to one of the six recognised bodies, an employer can select an organisation that can provide adequate and sufficient standards of training and assessment as required by UK legislation. Employers should satisfy themselves that the instructor has undergone appropriate training in instructional techniques and skills’ assessments. Whilst employers may operate their own in-house training system they may find in useful to have the training delivered by an NPORS Accredited Training Provider or have their trainers accredited by NPORS. NPORS Accredited Instructors
Any individual who wishes to become an NPORS Accredited Instructor must successfully complete the NPORS 10 Day ‘Method of Instruction’ Course, or have already completed an equivalent 10 Day Instructional Techniques Course delivered by one of the other five accrediting bodies, and successfully pass a monitoring visit to ensure their competence to deliver classroom sessions, practical training and assessments. Further monitoring is then carried out as required by the HSE. CPD can be observed as all NPORS Accredited Instructors have access to a free web-based CPD system. NPORS Operator AssessmentsThe assessment criteria for an operator has been developed over many years by the NPORS Training Standards Committee and drawing on the capabilities of our Accredited Training Providers/Instructors, who provide practical and realistic advice as they deliver the assessments with clients and understand any training and assessment challenges that can arise. NPORS Operator Cards
The Operator Registration Card is produced for an individual who has successfully completed practical and knowledge assessments on the categories shown on the back of the card. This shows that they have achieved a level of competence to operate the item on the card. Where the individual has successfully attended a NPORS (or industry) recognised Health and Safety Course, this can also be added onto the back of the card. To validate an NPORS Operator Card you can call the office for help and advice.
